UC Berkeley—located in the San Francisco Bay Area with its close proximity to Silicon Valley—has always been a leader in innovation in education. Most people know that Berkeley is the home of numerous Nobel Prize winners. Less well known is that UC Berkeley fuels the success of Silicon Valley. In a recent report, UC Berkeley alumni were shown to have founded more new companies (881!) than the alumni of any university in the world.

Berkeley is not just an institution for advanced research and teaching. It is the birthplace of ideas that change the world. Every Berkeley instructor understands that it is their responsibility to help students have a great impact on the world, and, quite often, they actually do.
