Creating Equity in Aging

The challenges of a journey of inclusion are unique to each person.  It comes from a very personal place and as such demands a very personal approach.  Within any organization, knowing where and how to start can be illusive.  Older adult housing, support and services are greatly dependent upon humans supporting humans.  And for an organization to evolve into one that is inclusive and equitable, it must invest in both organizational and individual resources that invite the whole of each person.

Sales Trends in a Maturing CCaH Industry

A.V. Powell’s latest survey shows that after more than 3 decades since the first CCaH contract was sold, the number of active CCaH programs slightly exceeds 30 in 2023 and we estimate around 6,000 continuing care contracts.  Have CCaH programs experienced the growth they had hoped for?  This session will focus on the experience programs have had thus far, with an eye on where the train is headed.  Recent sales and demographic experience will be presented from a subsection of the industry and the session will investigate which types of plans are selling.  The costs and benefits of selling plans without membership fees, as well as care-coordination only plans will be examined.  The presentation will also investigate the question of utilization.  As programs are maturing, have programs had the type of utilization they have expected.  An experimental design will be suggested to help CCaH programs determine scientifically if they can keep frail individuals at home for lower cost, or with better outcomes than institutional care.  That question has proven difficult for programs to answer with empirical support.  We will suggest the types of data that should be collected as a minimum dataset for the industry to help programs prove their value to key stakeholders.
